A new dating reality show will invite viewers to consider how an awareness of life’s uncertainty can change the way people approach love.
SBS’s upcoming program “Love Against Time” will bring together single men and women in their 20s and 30s who have faced serious illnesses, including participants who were once given terminal diagnoses or experienced life-threatening health crises. Now moving forward with their lives, they will enter the show hoping to form genuine romantic connections.
At the heart of the program is a question about whom someone would choose to love when time can no longer be taken for granted. The participants will share the lasting impact of their experiences while deciding whether they are ready to become emotionally vulnerable with someone new.
“Love Against Time” will incorporate time directly into its dating format. Every evening, the participants will select someone to whom they want to give their time, making each choice an indication of where their feelings may be heading.
The production team has also teased that filming revealed surprising links between some of the participants. According to the show’s creators, several connections developed in ways that had not been anticipated during the casting process, potentially adding another layer to the relationships unfolding on screen.
Watching their stories from the studio will be actress Lee Se Young, CNBLUE’s Jung Yong Hwa, SEVENTEEN’s DK, and Yena.
The program marks Lee Se Young’s first experience as a host of a dating reality show. She reportedly became emotional while hearing the participants’ stories during the first recording. Jung Yong Hwa, meanwhile, is expected to use his enthusiasm for dating programs to spot subtle changes in the cast members’ feelings.
DK will contribute his warm and empathetic perspective to the panel, while Yena is expected to relate to the participants on a particularly personal level. The singer overcame cancer during childhood and will draw from that experience as she follows their journeys, while also offering her own observations about the developing romances.
Producing director Lee Eun Sol, who previously directed the fortune-teller dating show “Fortune Tellers’ Love,” is leading the project. She explained that the program aims to portray the sincerity of young people who understand the limits of life and nevertheless choose to pursue love wholeheartedly with the time available to them.
“Love Against Time” will premiere on August 3 at 10 p.m. KST on SBS.
